In normal times the Re/Max Garden City Social calendar would be pretty full. Golf tournaments, bowling outings, staff parties, etc etc. But these are not normal times. The last actual structured event we celebrated was our Awards Gala, back the first week of March. A week later the province shut things down. All group gatherings, social events, celebrations put on hold due to COVID-19.

Some time ago, the Government identified two distinct problems within the housing sector in Ontario which they set about to rectify. The first was availability. In many municipalities in the province, especially around the Golden Horseshoe rental units were extremely hard to come by. Vacancy rates were at or below 2%. Good for landlords. While COVID-19 has had a profound impact on every aspect of the Canadian economy, it has not affected all industries in the same way or to the same degree. We have seen the retail section, especially malls totally shut down as we on a National scale, a Provincial scale and at a municipal level seek to contain the transmission of the disease. Restaurants, hair salons, all were temporarily mandated to close. And while other industries such as travel may have been allowed to continue, wary travellers and geographic barriers ground them almost to a halt.
