Nuggets - Acts of Kindness and More in the Year 2020

Nuggets - Acts of Kindness and More in the Year 2020

I have been absent from writing the “Nuggets” portion of our monthly newsletter this year, but now that I am back to work it’s back on my work agenda plate again.

But what to write about… most often the subject of the “nuggets” story reflects on present or past social events our Brokerage hosts. As expected, we haven’t had any in 2020.

So I reached out to some of our staff and realtors to see what they have been up to over the last six months. I was overwhelmed with the variety of “Acts of Kindness”, and how creative we can be at RGC.

I personally spent a lot of time walking with a mission. “You need an ink cartridge?” No problem, I would walk 6 km to go get it. “You need flour?” Sadly, I should have driven for that one. Others went for long bike rides, cleaned out closets, tool rooms, and donated items (when allowed) to local charities. People used skills they never knew existed, cooking, baking, building fences and decks.

There were several drive by birthdays, one drive by wedding shower. A couple in our office took their wedding vows, as did a daughter of one of our agents. And not to mention, two baby bundles of joy.

Our Grimsby office ran a “Fill the Food Baskets” campaign, helping families in need locally. In Fonthill, one couple decided that on a monthly basis, they would donate the money they saved on dining out to their local charity. Our Niagara Grape and Wine festival was cancelled but that didn’t stop several agents from collecting food and money for Community Care in St. Catharines. Recently a realtor signed up as a volunteer to make sandwiches and deliver them to neighbourhood schools. And those are just a few. One special “Act of Kindness” topped everything. This past July 2020, a realtor in our office became a stem cell donor to his brother, who is battling leukemia. How selfless and how kind. I would check in every couple of days, and now after several months, both donor and recipient are smiling and doing very well.

As we head down the road of 2020 and into 2021, there is hope that we can still be creative with our personal time, and generous and kind as well.
